Day 173 – Loopy Paisley

We recently met Crazy Paisley and saw what happens when Pointy Paisley goes crazy.
It turns out Crazy Paisley has a younger sister who’s a little less crazy, but just as much fun. Here’s Loopy Paisley!
Today I’m going to get the final pieces of Lost in the Woods together and finally off my design wall.
Yes, I do admit I’m only getting it off my wall to make room for a new quilt, but I will go back and finish it some day.
And just what am I making room for???
I’ve finally polished up the final touches of Shadow Self, very special quilt that I really want to create next in my goddess series.
After the disaster of My Cup Runneth Over, I’ve sat down and really taken my time with this design. The piecing, applique, AND quilting designs are all solid and ready to go.
Unfortunately all of my limited computer programs don’t seem to want to resize this particular goddess into the 50″ square size she is destined for. Why does technology ALWAYS break when you really need it??
So I’m going to try blowing the design up at Office Max tomorrow after yoga. I’ve never had a design resized and professionally printed, so this will be new and hopefully fun.
Inspiration – After seeing Crazy Paisley and the easy way the design formed using 2 loops, I realized I could simplify the design down to only one loop and still create a very awesome design.
Difficulty Level – Intermediate. This design isn’t too hard because it’s based off a simple loop, much like the cursive letter “L”.
Chances are you’ve probably drawn this shape thousands of times, so stitching this design should be no problem at all!
Design Family – Pivoting. This is a design created by first stitching a shape, in this case the loopy design, then returning to your starting point and pivoting off of it echo the initial shape several times.
Because of the way it’s created, this design is easy to stitch and covers large amounts of space in a short period of time. It should work in just about any area of your quilt, so definitely try it next time you want to free motion quilt!
Directional Texture – All directions. This design has a nice multi-directional texture. You can use a design like this to spice up a plain, solid colored fabric or blend in with a complicated print.
Suggestions for Use – I see many variations of this Loopy Paisley design in our future, but I’d definitely try using this one on a large bed quilt. It’s sure to fill quickly and with a little more texture and interest than a regular Paisley filler.
