Day 137 – English Ivy
Do you remember Heart Paisley? I was looking at this design today and thinking we need a variation of it.
So I played with stitching the same design backwards and came up with this similar, yet different design called English Ivy:
Of course, I’m really happy I haven’t caught the icky sickness, but at the same time worried that I will catch it right before a very inopportune moment, like right before my workshop in SC on the 20th!
All I can do is keep washing my hands, eat right, and get loads of rest. Before I hop off the computer for a nap, let’s learn how to stitch this fun design:
Difficulty Level – Intermediate. This isn’t a hard design, but it is tricky keeping your heart shapes looking like hearts.
If you look closely at my sample, some of mine smallest hearts started looking like weird amoebas by the end.
Design Family – Independent. While this design was inspired by a pivoting design like Paisley, it’s really formed more like Pebbling with the heart shapes stacking into one another.
This means this design will work in pretty much any area of your quilt. You’ll want to watch the weird areas with this design as it can be a bit tricky to fill the whole area without noticeable leaving gaps.
Directional Texture – All Directions. This design has a really nice multi-directional texture that works really well in the busy, attention getting areas of a quilt.
Suggestions for Use – Personally I think this design will look best expanded and stitched over large areas of your quilt.
If you stitch the initial heart shape around 4″ wide and long and fill it with only 2 internal echoes, you’ll find this design can cover an enormous amount of space in a very short amount of time.
and send in a picture to show it off.

Another super design Leah – I hope you avoid the sickness bug – what have you got planned for the 20th?
I love this design…along with all of the others. Just wish I could get up the nerve to try them out myself!
Now that you finished your beginner dvds, when are you going to do the next group of the freemo fillers? I'm waiting anxiously.
