Day 104 – Paisley Flower

We’ve had Space Star which was a combination of Pointy Paisley and Pebbling, but what would this look like with regular Paisley?

Well, it’s official. The nasty, snotty nosed flu my kid has been carrying around for the past 5 days has now spread to me.

So I’ve just about resigned myself to the fact that filming of the beginner DVD will have to stop until the New Year.

There’s just too much stuff going on, too much noise, dust, and confusion with the kitchen remodel and WAY too much snot from this cold.

Somehow I don’t think beginners will enjoy watching me blow my nose and blubber through explanations of tension, thread, and needle choice in a half coherent voice. Ha!

I’m also feeling a huge pull to finish the black and white Winter Wonderland quilt, which I can still work on even if my nose is running out of control.

Huge portions of The Duchess were quilted while I was running a raging high fever so this is not unusual.

Sometimes, at least for me, you choose to quilt and sometimes the quilt chooses you. This is one of those times where the quilt HAS to get quilted.

I’m still on the fence about entering the Paducah show with Release Your Light, but if I had 2 quilts to enter by Jan 1st, I may just do it.

Okay, enough moaning about being sick! Let’s learn how to quilt Paisley Flower:

Inspiration – I’m still on my kick of mixing pebbling with other designs to see what happens. Maybe next I’ll start playing with spirals microstippling to see what mixes those designs can come up with.

Difficulty Level – Intermediate. Paisley and pebbling are not hard designs, but they do require some traveling over your previous stitching. Just take it slow and keep your hands close to your free motion foot for more control over your stitching.

Design Family – Center Fill. Paisley is a pivot design and Pebbling is a stacking design. Both work in any area of your quilt, so together they will work just about anywhere too!

Directional Texture – All directions. The flower shapes really provide a nice all-over texture for your quilt.

Suggestions for Use – I don’t know about you, but I’m craving me some spring sunshine already, and it’s not even January!

If you feel like lightening up your winter with bright colors, consider piecing up a bright quilt and using the cheerful Paisley Flower to hold the layers together.
