Day 57 – Curvy Key

If you’ll remember back a few days ago we were all challenged a bit by the Greek Key design. Now, I love advanced designs and all that, but sometimes it just takes the fun out of the stitch when you have to focus so hard on it your brain starts to hurt.

Inspiration – I’m always searching for variations or just simply easier ways to stitch a design. It’s not all about making everything super hard and ultra-sonically advanced! We do have to finish our quilts occasionally, right???

Greek Key just always felt a bit stuffy and regimented to me. Also curves, in general, stitch up faster because you can flow with the design rather than be constantly stopping and changing direction.

Design Family – Edge to Edge. This is a design stitched from one edge of your quilting space to another so it will work really good in open areas like sashing or expanded over the whole surface of your quilt.

Difficulty Level – Beginner. This is really very easy! If you can draw a nice curvy, cartoony letter “T” you’ll be quilting this design in no time.

Directional Texture – 2 directions. You definitely see a real horizontal or vertical texture to this design.

Suggestions for Use – I’d like to see this design stitched in sashing. Sashing is the strips of no-man land in between your blocks that are typically left totally bare.

These areas are some of the best on your quilt for added texture! Think about it: your sashing is open, uncomplicated, narrow, and typically runs in straight, unbroken lines down your quilt. How easy would it be to stitch a nice decorative filler into these areas!
